Well, it's been a little over a week since Wade had his tonsils removed! I'm happy to report that he is doing much better and is at least 95% if not a 100% back to normal! It was a LONG 4 days after surgery though!!!
The day of the surgery we arrived at the surgery center at 6:15 am and were greeted by my parents aka Wade's Grammy and Poppy! We had enough time for wade to open a present from Grammy and Pop and then we were called back! Grammy and Pop hung back in the waiting room with Pyper girl!
They gave Wade his loopy medicine and then let us sit for it to begin working. Within about 5 mins he had the giggles and was feeling very relaxed. His Nonnie an Papaw came back to hug and kiss him before surgery. Brody and I then prayed over him and he willing went with the sweet nurse that would be taking care of him through surgery.
From the time they took him back to the time we got to see him it took about 30 minutes! The doctor can out and informed us that we had indeed made the right decision! He said he had never seen tonsils so big on an almost three year old. We then were taken back to recovery to love on our baby! This is we're the hard part really started.
I walked into a dimly lite room with my baby boy screaming. I had some what prepared myself for this but it ended up being worse than I expected. I scooped him up and held him tightly but he was so groggy he was still mad and inconsolable. He quickly realized he had an I've taped to his arm and we had to hold him down for the next hour and a half to keep him from pulling it out!
The nurses said he couldn't have pain meds until he drank water or juice for us! Well if you know my child, he is STUBBORN and refused to drink anything until the IV came out, and the nurses refused to take the IV out until he drank something. Needless to say Wade won and after 2 hours of holding a kicking screaming child down and pleading with him to drink, they took the IV out. He immediately took several big sips of water!!
After we finally forced meds down him. |
The pain set in even more once he woke up and was more aware. The bad thing was, as I said before he was so tired of takin medicine that we couldn't get pain meds down him. It took Brody and two nurses to hold him down and get a dose in him. Once that happened he got a little relief and was able to eat half a popsicle. After a good 6 hrs at the surgery center we FINALLY got to go home!
It was a LONG weekend but it was all worth it! He is already eating so much better because he can swallow easier without his tonsils and he is hearing PRAISE GOD! It's been so sweet for him to hear something new and see his face light up! In return his speech has already improved a lot!!!! We are so thankful it's done and over and was well worth it all!!! Thank you all for your sweet prayers! We truly felt them!
Sister helping brother rest up! |
